The GeForce256

By now, all of you have heard of the GeForce256 graphics processor "GPU". So what makes this "GPU" so special? Well, its the first single-chip graphics processor to include an integrated transform and lighting engine, and a new QuadPixel™ pipeline. So what does this mean? A damned fast chipset. With is Transform and Lighting engine (T&L), the graphics board can handle all the complex geometry things. This frees up the CPU, so the game designer can add better computer A.I., and make more realistic 3D models. The only downside, is that very few games right now support T&L. With that said, lets go on to the next topic (stop jumping with joy).

   DDR? What the hell?

DDR, which stands for double data rate, is faster then basic SDR RAM. DDR memory transfers on both the rising edge and the falling edge of the input clock, while SDR memory transfers data only on the rising edge of the clock. This effectively doubles the peak bandwidth of the memory without requiring a wider interface. And don't point out the fact that I stole that last line. I know I took it from the Annihilator Pro review. I'm not going to bother putting in the comparison chart, because you can look at it on the Annihilator Pro review. Basic SDR RAM is clocked at 166MHz, but since the DDR RAM has double the bandwidth, it shows as 300Mhz (150Mhz x 2).
